ALI’S TIPS ON MAKING THE MOVE
If you are sure you want to make the move, put your possessions into storage in France. It doesn’t matter where you end up – get everything across the Channel first.
Rent a gîte out-of-season when rates are cheap to give yourself plenty of time to find your property. This also gives you the chance to familiarise yourself with getting connected to French utilities.
Today there are plenty of Englishspeaking agencies in popular destinations to help you find your property – make the most of them. This wasn’t the case when I moved in the mid-1990s.
If you want to integrate, learn the language: watch French television with subtitles on, listen to French radio and read French books.
