Plans to do away with Paris’s iconic Métro ticket are part of a project to modernise the French capital’s transport system in the next few years. Measures to replace the tickets in a gradual manner will start with renaming the monthly Navigo pass that is used on the Métro, bus and rail in Paris to ‘smart Navigo’, allowing customers to scan their phones at the barrier. It is also hoped that travellers will be able to pay for their journey directly with contactless bank cards and billing customers at the end of the month for transport taken.
