Bargain hunters will love rummaging for treasured goods at La Braderie de Lille, a popular street market that has origins dating back to the 12th century. Taking place from 3-4 September, the fair’s festivities kick off on the Saturday afternoon and last until 11pm the following day, without interruption. The all-nighter sees some 10,000 exhibitors, including 300 professional second-hand dealers lining the streets to sell antiques and bric-a-brac finds. If all that rooting and rummaging makes you peckish, refuel on the market’s traditional dish of moulesfrites with a local beer and play your part in the annual contest to see which restaurant can amass the highest pile of shells.
