On receiving the July edition of Living France my eye was caught by the article ‘The Icing on the Cake’. It was not just because of my love of French pâtisserie, but because the cake designer was based in Castres, Tarn. This was where I spent my year abroad in 196970 as the English assistant at Lycée Jean Jaurès. I was very quickly accepted not only by the school community but also in the local church. And this was even before the EEC, as it was known then.
I am delighted that Danielle has been able to take on the French at their own game and she clearly will make a success of her business. After my year in Castres, I had to return to England to continue my studies and did not return to the beautiful Tarn département until recently. Next time I go I shall have to look out for those mouth-watering cakes.
