What to do
Visit the Pont d’Arc Cavern, the replica of the UNESCO-listed Chauvet Cave, which contains the oldest known examples of parietal art, protected for more than 36,000 years due to the collapse of its entry point.
Canoe down the Ardèche gorges.
Cycle along the Rhône-side voies douces, or challenge yourself on sections of the famous l’Ardéchoise road race.
Take to the air above Annonay, the birthplace of the hot-air balloon.
Ride the Train de l’Ardèche, an old steam train that runs through the picturesque landscape of the Doux valley.
If visiting in autumn, look out for events in Les Castagnades’ programme celebrating the delights, and historical importance, of chestnuts in Ardèche.
