Ask the agent

No one knows the area like a local estate agent. We asked Jamel Bezzazi of Agence Teissier Transactions for the inside track on Ardèche

and decided to buy a property so he could live here permanently.

Is there a typical architecture or style in Ardèche?

You typically find old stone mas, (farmhouses), with vaulted cellars, traditional stone floors, vaulted ceilings, quite often with old stone sinks or bakers’ ovens.

What advice would you give to somebody who is thinking of buying in your area?

Buy now before there is an increase in property prices! And research the places where you are thinking of buying.

Why do British people buy houses in Ardèche?

For the natural unspoilt landscape and outdoor activities, the characterful towns and villages and, of course, the Mediterranean microclimate which is very sunny.

What tips would you give to help people trying to settle into life in the area?

Join one of the many associations and clubs. It’s easy to socialise and meet people through them. I think the market will grow – there are some great opportunities for people to buy affordable property. I think buying a property here is a very good investment as the area attracts many tourists.
