‘Tis the season

Living France - - News - Vicky Leigh, Deputy Editor

They say time flies when you’re having fun, and here we are with the festive season upon us once again. I’ve always loved Christmas, and this issue has definitely helped me to get into the spirit of the season. There’s something particularly magical about Alsace at this time of the year, and I’ll never forget my first visit to Colmar and the marché de Noël in Kaysersberg when I lived in neighbouring Lorraine. Solange Hando’s article certainly left me feeling festive (and nostalgic – a return visit has now been added to my list of resolutions for 2017), yet also reminded me that this eastern corner of France isn’t just for Christmas, as you’ll discover on page 20.

There’s more seasonal cheer in store in our guide to French Yuletide traditions on page 30, but if you’re already looking forward to the return of warmer weather then why not dip a toe into the waters of Corsica? With beautiful beaches, spectacular scenery and 2,800 sunshine hours per year, it’s the perfect cure for the winter blues (p40).

As 2016 draws to a close and with the prospect of Brexit on the horizon, our currency and tax experts consider what might lie ahead in 2017 (p78 and 80). But for now I’d like to wish you all a very happy Christmas, and don’t forget you can join us at The France Show in London in January – turn to page 50 for more information and a special ticket offer. We hope to see you there.

Joyeux Noël!
