Living France - - News - Vicky Leigh, Deputy Editor

Iprobably shouldn’t admit this, but I’ve never been skiing – despite having the opportunity to do so quite literally on my doorstep when I lived in France. Since coming back to the UK I’ve often regretted not giving it a go, and this month’s feature on Haute-Savoie made me think – yet again – that I really should rectify the situation. (Perhaps I should make it a belated New Year’s resolution.)

The department is home to some of France’s – and indeed the world’s – most famous ski resorts, and yet at the same time it’s definitely not just for winter. If you’re looking for somewhere to enjoy a year-round lifestyle in France then you’ll find it on page 20. Lake Annecy in particular is beautiful in the summer, with activities galore on the water and the shore.

Choosing a location is one of the first decisions you’re likely to face when it comes to buying a French home, but how do you make the right one in a country as diverse as France? House-sitting could be the answer – find out how it offers the chance to live like a local and try before you buy on page 38. And when you are ready to get a foot on the property ladder, our guide on page 54 explains the buying process in France.

We were invited to meet Lyndsay and Richard Watterson, stars of the new series of A New Life in the Sun on Channel 4, at their home in Gers to find out more about their own move to France. Our Staff Writer Catriona Burns’ interview with them was filmed for the programme, and you can read all about it on page 32. Keep your eyes peeled for her cameo!
