La Grille, Sauvignon Blanc Lacheteau, Kiwi Cuvée Sauvignon Blanc 2015 IGP Val de Loire
2015 Touraine (£8.99 Majestic) Touraine is one of my favourite appellations for Sauvignon Blanc, and La Grille is a great-value producer. It is characterised by a zesty herbal flavour, reminiscent of cut grass or tomato stalk – sounds strange, but tastes delicious! It also has loads of fresh lemon fruit, which makes it a great accompaniment to salads and seafood. (£6.25 Morrisons, £7.49 Ocado) This cheeky brand was the first of the responses to the onslaught of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. It’s a great example of the modern, fruit-driven style of Sauvignon Blanc, with lots of simple gooseberry fruit flavour and refreshing crispness. This is an ideal bottle to have standing by for parties and casual lunches – it’s a real crowd-pleaser.
