TAXES RISE FOR NON-RESIDENTS IN PARIS
Brits with property in Paris may face new taxes as city officials try to deal with the capital’s housing shortage.
In an effort to stop foreign owners leaving their property empty, the new measure would increase the taxe d’habitation that non-residents have to pay to 60%, up from the current 20%.
Homes owned by non-residents currently make up 10% of the 1.1 million homes in Paris. It is hoped that the proposed rise in council tax for non-resident owners would bring an extra €43 million into Paris, and make more affordable housing available to permanent Parisians.
