Off to the races

1 It’s all about speed, control and endurance at the Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris, one of France’s most exhilarating horse racing events. Taking place from 20-21 May in the Hippodrome d’Auteuil in Paris’s 16th arrondissement, the 6km course features some 23 fences in a race that typically lasts seven minutes. After you’ve placed your bets, refuel at the champagne bar and variety of food trucks before picking the equestrian experts’ brains at the ‘Easy Racing Zone’ and taking a ride on the virtual saddle. grand

Extreme lengths

2 The sky’s the limit at the International Festival of Extreme Sports in Montpellier from 24-28 May. The event is the largest freestyle sports competition in Europe, and its daredevil displays that include skateboarding, rollerblading and wakeboarding are watched by thousands of spectators along the banks of the River Lez in addition to some 1,000 amateurs of the sports. There is also a sports village where you can find the latest sporting equipment and big-name DJs adding to the electrifying atmosphere.

Full speed

3 Get your pulses racing at the Grand Prix de France motorcycle race from 19-21 May at the famous Bugatti circuit in Le Mans. In addition to watching a weekend’s worth of fast and furious racing, there are also film screenings on motorbike racing, exhibitions of vintage bikes, night-time music concerts and a shopping village stocking helmets, leathers and other bike accessories. There is also a race reserved for bikers with a disability; a new addition for 2017. gpfrance
