This self-published book by English language teacher and expat Joy Brodier looks at the similarities between the English and French language and reveals 350 French words that have a common root with an English word. One such example is plat, meaning flat, and an easy way of remembering that is to think of the English word plate, which is so-called because it is flat. Joy is clearly fascinated by both the English and French languages and this book explores some of the commonalities between the two.

What’s French for Baguette? is available from ama and costs £7.50.
