It is ad­vis­able to ob­tain more than one quote ( de­vis) for the work you want done and com­pare them care­fully. Make sure you have a quote in writ­ing and that it in­cludes all the work you need do­ing, for ex­am­ple the ma­te­ri­als to be used or the num­ber of elec­tri­cal sock­ets.

En­sure that your builder is prop­erly reg­is­tered in France with a SIRET num­ber and has the nec­es­sary in­sur­ance in place to guar­an­tee their work ( dé­cen­nale) and cover against any dam­age caused dur­ing the course of the ren­o­va­tion works ( re­spon­s­abil­ité civile). If they aren’t reg­is­tered and don’t have in­sur­ance, you will have no re­course un­der French law should some­thing go wrong, and this could end up cost­ing you more money to put things right.
