Our dream home
Longing for better weather, editor Vicky Leigh is charmed by a pretty house in Provence
I’m currently looking out of the office window at menacing skies and torrential rain, so it’s hardly surprising that I’m wishing I was still in Provence. A friend of mine is lucky enough to live there, and not for the first (or indeed last) time I found myself wishing I did too when I visited her recently. So choosing my dream home this month gave me the perfect opportunity (or excuse) to indulge in a spot of Provençal property shopping, and (fortunately) it turns out I don’t need the budget of a red carpet celebrity either. You certainly get a lot more house for your money if you move away from the Riviera, and this one even comes with my favourite feature too – pale blue shutters.
Set on a private plot of almost 3,000m2 of land, this recently built house near Lorgues in Var has plenty of space both outside and in. The grounds include a landscaped garden and pétanque court, not to mention a swimming pool and large terrace surrounding it, and with the prospect of so much sunshine I’d have no trouble putting all of the above to good use. But equally I’d also want to spend time inside, which has the feel of a cosy, country farmhouse. I love the wooden beams in the living room and kitchen, and I’d definitely be comfortable in the master suite, which has a bathroom and dressing area. With four bedrooms in total I’d be able to offer guests a bed for the night too should we decide to open the rosé. Which obviously we will, perhaps after a game of pétanque.
