A supermarket in Seine-Maritime has tapped into the trend for homegrown food by selling produce grown from its rooftop garden. The 1,200m² vegetable plot on the roof of Carrefour in Villiers-en-Bière is managed by local students (pictured below) who tend to the garden’s fruit trees and vegetable plants. The students also share information with neighbouring schools and Carrefour customers. It’s hoped that their work will encourage similar projects in hypermarkets across the country. A 6,000m² in-ground garden is currently being created near the Carrefour store in Mérignac.
