Nestling be­tween the Rhône and the Du­rance, Vaucluse is the Provence of your dreams laced with vine­yards and or­chards, olive groves, wooded hills and laven­der fields stretch­ing as far as you can see. Ci­cadas sing all sum­mer long while foun­tains gur­gle in hill­top vil­lages and glis­ten­ing rivers meander in the val­leys. Translu­cent light, glow­ing colours and breath­tak­ing scenery have in­spired myr­iad writ­ers and artists, but for all its glory, this lit­tle corner of France has man­aged to pre­serve its au­then­tic­ity and a charm which leaves you long­ing for more. True, sum­mers are busy but wander off the tourist trail and you’ll dis­cover re­mote vil­lages and a pris­tine nat­u­ral world.
