TAX COSTS CUT
From 2018, you may no longer have to factor taxe d’habitation costs into your outgoings after the government announced moves to end the payment will start next year. It is expected that 80% of households will benefit from the reform of the housing tax; an estimated 16.6 million families. Only households with a taxable income of more than €20,000 a year per individual will still have to pay the taxe d’habitation expense. The tax will be reduced for retirees with a pension of just over €1,200 a month but they may be hit hard by the 1.7% increase in the CSG social charge which comes into force this year. The move to end the payment comes earlier than expected. It had previously been suggested that the reform of the housing tax would take place in 2019.
