Cazes 2012 Muscat de Rivesaltes
(£10.99 for 50cl Aitken Wines) Traditional muscat from Rivesaltes – such as this one from Domain Cazes – is one of France’s least-appreciated wine styles. It’s sweet and fortified, so it has 16% alcohol and a similar sweetness level to port, making it perfect when sipped slowly as a digestif. The fruit character is crystal clear: sweet grape juice offset by a slightly bitter orange peel note. This is a great example of a unique wine making the most of muscat.
