A 10-bedroom château in south-west France has been sold at auction for just over €1m, despite being valued at €2.945m. The stunning property in Pyrénées-Atlantiques went under the hammer on 22 June with no set reserve price, allowing one lucky buyer to bag themselves a real bargain. Originally built in 1811, the château has four large reception rooms and nine luxury bedroom suites, while a one-bedroom guest cottage, summer house and barn provide additional accommodation in the extensive grounds. Set in 14 hectares of land, the property also comes with its own private lake, heated swimming pool, cinema, gym and sauna. Furthermore, it has already been renovated throughout, including complete rewiring and re-plumbing, new double-glazed windows and a geothermic heating system. Just 35 minutes from the city of Pau, the property is also within an hour of both the Pyrénées and the beaches of Biarritz.
