THE PRICE OF A GOOD EDUCATION

Living France - - The Essentials -

Living close to a good collège in France could mean paying between 7% and 27% more for a property, according to a new study by the site MeilleursAgents.com. The study examined the prices of properties situated less than 300 metres from the best French collèges (based on their brevet results) in Paris and eight other cities across the country.

In Bordeaux, Lille and Lyon, you should expect to pay 7%, 8% and 9% more respectively than the average property price in those cities, while at the other end of the scale you could pay 17% more in Paris for a home close to a good school. Montpellier and Toulouse, however, are more expensive still, with prices recorded at 22% and 27% above the average. According to the study, the average price in Toulouse, for example, is €2,646/m2, but this rises to more than €2,900/m2 for a property within 300 metres of the best collèges. Meanwhile in Montpellier, the average price comes in at €2,698/m2 but rises to €3,300/m2 close to a good school.
