Take a tour of the 45 departments with an average house price of less than €150,000
For many people, the idea of owning their own home in the UK is further out of reach than ever before. But take your house hunt across the Channel to France and you’ll find that a modest budget of €150,000 could buy the house of your dreams. The average price for a property in the UK is now £223,000 according to the most recent Land Registry figures, but over these pages we take a closer look at the departments in France where the average house price is below €150,000 – and there are 45 of them! Not forgetting the four in Auvergne already covered on page 20.
Properties are not only more affordable in France; they offer better value for money: larger living space, more outdoor space and often extra amenities such as a cellar or outbuildings. And the good news is that you don’t have to limit your search to a specific area of France. Okay, so Paris, Provence and the Alps might be out of reach if your budget is €150,000 or less, but look how far your money will go across the rest of the country – even in popular hot spots such as Charente and Dordogne.
