Parents in France will be legally obliged to vaccinate their children from 2018. Currently, only three childhood vaccines are mandatory, including those that protect against diphtheria, tetanus and polio, but others, including those against hepatitis and whooping cough are only recommended. Prime Minister Édouard Philippe said all 11 vaccines that are universally recommended by health authorities would be compulsory, adding it was “unacceptable” that children were still dying of measles. In the first two months of 2017, a total of 79 cases of measles were reported in France.
