If you find yourself struggling with your language skills when you go to France, you are not alone. A recent poll conducted by HolidayAutos.co.uk revealed that the average Brit knows only 15 words of French when they go on holiday to France, although this is more than any other language, including Spanish, where British holidaymakers only knew an average of eight words. Unsurprisingly ‘hello’, ‘yes’ and ‘goodbye’ are the most common words that are known in a foreign language, followed by ‘thanks’, ‘no’ and ‘good morning’. The survey revealed that more than one in 20 have even resorted to drawing pictures and one in 10 have to rely on their smartphone to make themselves understood.
