HOLD THE PHONE!
The year 2018 looks set to be the end for the telephone box in France, now that French law no longer requires towns to have at least one booth. There are a total of 5,450 telephone boxes left in France, compared to 30,000 20 years ago. From 2012-2015, their usage decreased by 90% and they now represent a loss for phone company Orange. But not all of the booths are destined for the scrap yard – 1,257 have already been saved and transformed into mini libraries and the public is being consulted about alternative options.
