THIS MONTH’S DREAM HOME
The possibility of generating an income is often an important factor when it comes to moving to France, and running gîtes is probably one of the most popular options. Often that involves finding a property with potential and starting from scratch, but as I’m rather impatient – not to mention lacking in DIY skills – I think I’d want the ready-made option. Like this property in Haute-Vienne. Not only has it been renovated, but it already offers an up-andrunning gîte with an established record of returning guests. Located in a quiet hamlet just outside a village, this comfortable home is also just 30 minutes from Limoges airport, making it very easy to get to.
Consisting of two stone cottages, the first has been created from an old barn and features a large, open-plan living area on the upper floor to make the most of the views over the garden, not to mention the spectacular scenery of the Périgord-Limousin regional nature park. One of the two bedrooms is also on this level, while the second is downstairs on the ground floor, where there is access to a garage.
The second cottage, currently used as a gîte, also has two bedrooms, both of which are en suite, plus a well-equipped kitchen, a dining room and a spacious lounge with a wood-burning stove. Guests have their own private outside space too, and there’s the added benefit of separate access from the main house.
I often think it would be nice to work from home – just think how short the commute would be for a start. And I’m definitely sold on the idea if this is what work and home could look like.
