Shorter school week
According to the Association des Maires de France, 43% of French schools have gone back to a four-day week (having dropped a half-day), after the government gave communes the choice to reintroduce the shorter week in May. Of the 21,735 communes that have at least one state school, 9,430 opted to return to the shorter week at the beginning of the school year in September. In Lille, for example, 79% of communes returned to a four-day week, while 82% changed back in Nice. Corsica has the highest number of communes (97%) that chose the shorter week for their schoolchildren.
