Ac­cord­ing to the As­so­ci­a­tion des Maires de France, 43% of French schools have gone back to a four-day week (hav­ing dropped a half-day), af­ter the gov­ern­ment gave com­munes the choice to rein­tro­duce the shorter week in May. Of the 21,735 com­munes that have at least one state school, 9,430 opted to re­turn to the shorter week at the be­gin­ning of the school year in Septem­ber. In Lille, for ex­am­ple, 79% of com­munes re­turned to a four-day week, while 82% changed back in Nice. Cor­sica has the high­est num­ber of com­munes (97%) that chose the shorter week for their school­child­ren.
