Held every year during the last weekend of June, the Marathon des Mots in Toulouse was originally founded in 2005 by Olivier Poivre d’Arvor and honours writers and artists from all over the world. The event includes more than 150 literary gatherings, during which readings are given by actors or by the authors themselves, and there are book signings, debates and exhibitions too, while activities for children encourage them to experience the magic of the written word. Each year’s programme has a different theme and this year’s event, taking place from 28 June to 1 July, will explore the literature of the Portuguesespeaking world. All events are free to attend. lemarathondesmots.com Turn to page 22 for more on life in Toulouse
