Living France - - What's New -

A campaign to add Paris’ bistros and café terraces to UNESCO’s intangible cultural heritage list has been launched in France. The new lobby group has highlighted the cafés’ role in the community as a place for people and cultures to come together. UNESCO status would offer the sites legal protection, help with conservation, and would officially recognise their cultural value. This latest application follows the recent unanimous vote to apply for the same status for the iconic bouquinistes (booksellers) that line the River Seine.
