Some 800,000 trav­ellers were ex­pected to have vis­ited French vil­lages through July and Au­gust this year, ac­cord­ing to fig­ures from Airbnb. The vil­lage ex­pected to have had the most vis­i­tors is Morzine in Au­vergne-RhôneAlpes – one of the places that ben­e­fited from be­ing close to the Tour de France route. Three vil­lages in Oc­c­i­tanie made it into the top 10 most vis­ited (Col­lioure, Cauterets and Bag­nères-de-Lu­chon), and three in Cor­sica also fea­tured – Boni­fa­cio, Lu­mio and Gros­se­toPrugna. Vil­lages across France saw a marked in­crease in vis­i­tors from 2017 with some wel­com­ing more than five times more vis­i­tors in sum­mer 2018 than 2017. Châtil­lon-sur-Cher in Cen­tre-Val de Loire saw its num­bers grow the most with nine times more vis­i­tors in sum­mer 2018 than 2017.
