Young film-maker wins broadcast chance

-

FILMS by three children from Wales were broadcast on S4C last week as part of the See Yourself on Screen project.

One of the films, Pethau Cwl, was made by 12-year-old Ianto Gruffydd, pictured, from Pum Heol, near Llanelli, and was broadcast on S4C’s Stwnsh last Wednesday at 5pm.

The project is organised by the BFI (The British Film Institute; a charity that promotes and preserves film and television production in the UK) and they have announced the winners of their national competition, See Yourself on Screen.

The competition, run through the Young Audiences Content Fund, called on children across the UK to create and appear in a two-minute television programme reflecting on their personal experience of the lockdown during the coronavirus pandemic.

Fifteen winners received virtual masterclasses from professional presenters.

Popular presenter Owain Williams mentored the three winners in the Welsh language category. The 15 creations premiered on the See Yourself on Screen partner channels – Channel 5’s Milkshake! CITV, E4 and TG4, and the Welsh language winners on S4C between July 8 and 13.

Ianto’s film, Pethau Cwl (Cool Stuff ) is a fun, snappy look at how to use special effects for various hobbies and school projects.

He said: “I was super, super excited because it was great to have the opportunity to film, and more importantly, to edit the video.”

The two other winners in the same category are 10-year-old Osian Oyibo-Goss from Aberteifi with his film Bachgen yn erbyn Natur (Boy versus Nature), and nine-year-old Elan Llyfni Fon Jones from Pontllyfni, near Caernarfon with Lolian efo Elan (Lolz with Elan).
