Paralysed kickboxer sues over bike crash

- Tristan Kirk

A SUPERFIT kickboxer who was left paralysed after a motorcycle accident is suing for millions in compensation.

Lukasz Sowicz, 27, of Hanwell, was in a coma for more than a month after the crash on the North Circular and is still only able to move his right hand.

His hotel worker wife Kamila has been fundraising online to pay for physiotherapy, and has now launched a High Court claim against the motorcycle driver she blames for his injuries.

Mr Sowicz was the pillion passenger on June 27 last year when, according to the writ, the driver of the 600cc Honda hit the back of a Ford Fiesta at the junction with the A40 at the Hangar Lane Gyratory in Ealing.

Mr Sowicz was airlifted to hospital after the crash and remains at the specialist head injuries unit at Hillingdon Hospital “in a minimally conscious state”. He was completely paralysed when he came out of a coma, but the writ says he has “regained some voluntary control in his right hand and elbow”. On his wife’s Facebook page, he gives a thumbs up to show hi s progress. Mrs Sowic z prai sed her “strong man” on the page, adding: “As long as you fight, you are a winner.”

She is seeking compensation to pay for “a very significant level of care and rehabilitation” for life, as her husband is fed through a tube.

The motorcyclist’s defence to the action was not available from the court and the contents of the writ have yet to be tested in evidence before a judge.
