Cars torched in Stockholm rioting

- Ben Morgan

SWEDISH police were today investigating a riot in a mainly immigrant suburb of Stockholm.

One officer opened fire at rioters who threw rocks at police during clashes after an attempted drugs arrest in Rinkeby on Monday night. Unidentified people, including some wearing masks, also set cars on fire and looted shops.

One officer was injured by a rock and one person was arrested for throwing stones, police said. Some civilians who tried to stop looters were attacked. No one was hurt in the police shooting.

On Saturday, US president Donald Trump baffled Swedes by appearing to reference a non-existent incident in the country in a speech on immigration. He said: “You look at what’s happening last night in Sweden... they took in large numbers. They’re having problems like they never thought possible.” He tweeted that this “was in reference to a story broadcast on Fox News”.
