Partial burka ban for German public servants

GERMANY’S lower house of parliament has voted for a partial burka ban that would prevent civil servants, judges and soldiers from wearing the Islamic face veil in public.

The Bundestag bill will need the approval of the federal Bundesrat to become law. Chancellor Angela Merkel called for a ban on full face veils in public last December and pressure has come for the law from Right-wing parties ahead of September’s general election.
