Whoever approved material will be sacked, vows Camden council
CAMDEN council has told residents it will sack “whoever signed off ” on the use of the same cladding material thought to be responsible for the spread of the Grenfell Tower fire.
More than 100 residents gathered at Swiss Cottage library last night to demand sackings after it emerged that five blocks on the local Chalcots estate had been fitted with the material. The polythene panels were installed in 2006 for £66 million by the same contractors who refurbished Grenfell. The council believes the panels were not to the standard it commissioned.
Camden’s housing lead Patricia Callaghan said: “At the moment we don’t know who signed it off. We will find out. There will be a thorough review and you believe me, whoever signed it off to say it was safe for all you residents will walk. I can assure you.”
