She said that as a child “I played every sport. I was always competitive. We’d play as a family, we were all sporty. I’d watch dad play.
“Watching him stuck with me and made playing sport something I wanted to do. At school there is peer pressure against girls who play sport. Girls think they will get muscly and it is a negative thing, but if they’re well into the sport by their teens I don’t think they get as conscious about it.
“It is about getting sport into them a bit younger.”
She is backing the England and Wales Cricket B o a rd ’s #GoBoldly campaign to drive support for the England women’s cricket team. The ICC Women’s World Cup runs from Saturday to July 23 at venues around the country
