DELIA SMITH

There’s no one we want to please more this Christmas

London Evening Standard (West End Final B) - ES Magazine - - Talk Of The Town - By Lotte Jeffs

There’s one person in the world we wish was coming round for Christmas dinner, and it’s not Rihanna, Kate Upton, Peter Capaldi or any of our past crushes (all of whom we have invited for mulled wine on the 24th — RSVP, people!). It’s Delia ‘how to boil an egg’ Smith, of course. If the 71-year-old culinary icon

Her exacting manner, permanently pursed lips and clipped way with a compliment gets us all aflutter

fancies popping over a bit early to help us with our cranberry and onion confit, she’ll be more than welcome. But actually, what would really make our yuletide gay is if she sat between our sullen prepubescent cousins and chummy drunken uncle, and gave us positive feedback on our attempts to recreate dishes from that 2009 classic Delia’s Happy Christmas. Her exacting manner, permanently pursed lips and clipped way with a compliment gets us all aflutter. Ever since her no-nonsense How To Cook TV series we’ve wanted nothing more than to impress the foodie football fanatic with our precise timing and measuring skills. Yes, our eagerness to please the original celebrity cook (she hates to be called a chef) is borderline Fifty Shades of Glaze, but if we’re gluttons for punishment in the kitchen, we’ve got Delia to thank.
