Huskins re­ceived a call from Denise her­self. ‘She wasn’t cry­ing at all,’ he said, sound­ing re­lieved. ‘She just said: “Daddy, I’m OK.”’ He ex­plained that Denise had told him that she had been dropped off at her mother’s house in Hunt­ing­ton Beach, 420 miles from her home.
