New Look’s Moroccan Summer Fashion Fest
Look's Lucy Wood hit Marrakech to find out what inspired their boho summer collection
Marrakech is fast becoming the style destination du jour, thanks to Poppy Delevingne’s celeb-filled hippie wedding and regular visitor Millie Mackintosh’s Instagram feed. And it’s even infiltrating the high street, providing inspiration for New Look’s summer range, which totally nails the exotic patterns and traditional prints of Morocco.
To check out the new offerings, I flew to the city’s amazing El Fenn riad. After prising myself away from the pink marble bath, I was taken on an enchanting tour of the souk markets, one of the main influences for New Look’s summer pieces – think traditional tapestries, rich colours and swirling tile prints.
The collection was presented in the heart of the desert, and we relaxed in Bedouin tents as I made my mental wish list. Dusky cornflower blues are infused with vivid corals, and embroidery and fringing feature on everything from jumpsuits to statement kimonos. As for the accessories, I’m still lusting after the beaded sandals and zig-zag-print bag.
Eating tagine under the stars, it was clear to see how the landscape has become such a hot destination for fashion’s glitterati. And if New Look has anything to do with it, we’ll all be channelling Marrakech’s magic under the summer sun. Now to choose my favourite piece…
