A Love Letter To... Zara’s Trophy Top
As the high street pays homage to last year’s ÔIT’ top, Maxine Eggenberger reminisces about getting the buy everyone wantedé
Man Repeller declared it ‘the best top Zara has ever done’. I bought it. As far as beginnings go, it wasn’t dramatic by any means. However, a year on and my love affair with Zara’s cult top has transformed into a thing of unadulterated fashion passion that intensifies with every wear.
After it sold out in a matter of days, I knew I was lucky to get my hands on the embroidered hero piece last summer. The fact that women have since propositioned me with cold.hard.cash for, quite literally, the clothes off my back says more than words ever could.
As if by magic, a similar top then cropped up on Isabel Marant’s SS16 catwalk (four months after Zara’s incarnation hit the shelves) and now the Great British High Street has followed suit with offerings of its own. My insatiable sartorial hunger means I want the lot, but none score my heart quite like the Zara original I’m #blessed to call my own. Smug? Most definitely.
