Michelle Keegan: ‘Everyone Needs To Back Off!’
Being linked to co-stars, talk of babies and gruelling work hours… No wonder Michelle Keegan’s feeling the pressure
roughed-up and raring to go (but still flawless, FYI), Michelle Keegan is set to make quite the debut in BBC One’s Our Girl, if the trailer for the new series is anything to go by. But while the 29-year-old actress should be excited about the military drama hitting our screens, sources say that behind closed doors she’s struggling as speculation continues over her marriage to former TOWIE hunk Mark Wright, who she wed in May last year.
We can’t help but feel sorry for Mich, as family and friends have been voicing their opinions, too. ‘Hopefully it’s not too long until I’ll be an auntie,’ gushed Mark’s sister Jess, 30, last week.
The comment is believed to have irritated Michelle, who’s been open about wanting to wait to have children while her career takes off.
A friend reveals: ‘Michelle is really proud of her latest work and reckons it’ll open the door to a lot of exciting, more hard-hitting acting opportunities. So to think of taking a break [to have kids] is way off her agenda – she just wants everyone to back off.’
Things are now said to be ‘tense’ between the former Corrie star and her sister-in-law. They haven’t been seen publicly together in months, and at a recent Revlon bash
(Michelle is the new face of the brand), the girls weren’t spotted together despite both being in attendance.
Look noted that while Michelle looked incredible on the night, she seemed tired, too – well, it can’t be easy living out of a suitcase while filming.
‘Michelle tries not to take it to heart when people comment on her marriage,’ says a source. ‘But it’s extra pressure on her when they do.’
Jess’s remark follows an appearance by Mark on Loose Women last month, during which he told the audience that his mum Carol, 55, is keen to have grandchildren. ‘I think we’ve got another year or two of her nagging and we’ll just have to do it,’ said the 29-year-old.
For Michelle, however, it’s reportedly all too much, with our insider adding: ‘She feels like she’s getting it from all sides at the moment when she’s got too much work on to even think about family stuff.’
Last week, she took to Instagram, posting a snap of herself with the caption: ‘Silence is golden.’
Michelle is currently filming Tina And Bobby, a biopic about legendary footballer Bobby Moore’s life with childhood sweetheart Tina Dean. And while many might think playing mother of two Tina would make the actress broody, it seems that’s not the case.
‘Michelle loves children,’ says our source. ‘But she’s also quite happy to get the cuddles and hand them back. She’s so busy she barely has time for herself, let alone kids!’
And her schedule is at capacity. Michelle started filming Tina And Bobby in Manchester straight after wrapping Our Girl. She also has her Lipsy clothing line to promote, as well as her work with Revlon.
But it’s been tough on husband Mark. ‘He’s been a bit thrown by it all because he’s used to having Michelle around more,’ says our source. ‘He’d prefer it if she was driving home at every opportunity but realises that’s not possible, so he makes the effort to go up north instead.’
However, friends say it’s never as often as either of them would like, as he has work commitments, too – including regular DJ sets abroad.
Rumours of a split can’t be helping matters, either. Doubt was first cast when Michelle was seen without her wedding ring several times earlier this year. Addressing the situation on Twitter, Michelle hit back: ‘I work on camera so I take it off and put it somewhere safe... SIMPLE.’
But things only got worse when pictures emerged of the actress looking cosy with her Our Girl co-star Luke Pasqualino. Michelle has refused to comment on the snaps, but pals insist it’s a purely a working relationship.
Now she’s turning to her friends for support, while a trip away with Mark is on the cards. ‘Michelle has a lot of sympathetic ears,’ reveals our source. ‘But the thing she’s really looking forward to is spending some quality time with Mark on their upcoming holiday – he’s going to have to pull out all the stops.’
People are speculating that it’s make or break – but it’s simply some time for them to enjoy life as a couple and take a rest from work. ‘We’ve both been so busy,’ Michelle told Look recently. ‘It will be nice to get away together.’
As for having babies, the final word is with Mich: ‘When you have a child, everything changes – at the moment I’m really lucky with my life and I don’t want anything to change just yet.’
