My Oh My, Mango…
Look’s Maxine Eggenberger on how Mango has (rather unexpectedly) stolen her heart
One of the amazing things about being a fashion journalist is that you’re constantly being introduced to superexciting new brands… and you get to justify all shopping as ‘research’. So the fact that I still end up buying my basics in approximately three places is not only embarrassing (people can always guess where your outfit’s from, for one) but also a touch ridiculous on my part.
Don’t get me wrong, I flirt with other stores along the way – here’s looking at you, H&M and Next – but at any given time I reckon 87.7 per cent of my wardrobe can be traced back to three high street stores.
And then I met Mango.
Naturally, this isn’t my first sartorial fandango with the Barcelona-born outfitter (the brand’s trans-seasonal trophy jackets have become the stuff of legend). And yet its AW16 collection? It’s next level.
So impressed am I that I’m willing to put my career on the line (that may be a touch overdramatic) and proclaim that Mango’s latest campaign shoot is its best one EVER. Shot in New York, the range features designer-inspired clobber that’d look as at home on the catwalk as it would in your wardrobe – from could-be-chloé handbags (for £19.99!) to on-point leather jackets destined for street style stardom. Essentially, it’s everything you need to look hella good.
Personally, I’ve been losing sleep over the teal jacket – and I wouldn’t kick the gold loafers out of bed either. Ooh, and the ‘suits all shapes red midi dress’ layered over midi boots? Mango, may I…
So is Mango the new Zara? Is it about to own autumn/winter 2016? Maybe. All I know for sure is that my name is Maxine Eggenberger and I’m a fashion four-timer. I’m having an affair with Mango. And I don’t care who knows about it.
