J-law’s Big Payday
Jen’s the top-earning actress of the year and she’s doing it for the girls!
Jennifer Lawrence is probably walking around with a pretty big smile on her face this week. That’s because the 26-year-old actress has been revealed as the highest-paid actress of the past year, raking in £34 million according to the annual Forbes survey – the second time she’s clinched the top spot.
This means that Jen’s earned £3,935 per hour over the last year, even while sleeping. That’s in large part thanks to her role as Katniss in The Hunger Games franchise as well as an advance for new flick Passengers due out later this year. *Round of applause*
It comes less than a year after J-law penned the essay: ‘Why Do I Make Less Than My Male Co-stars?’ in which she admitted ‘failing as a negotiator’ after it was revealed she made two per cent less than her American Hustle male co-stars, including Bradley Cooper, 41.
Sadly, it doesn’t mean the gender pay gap doesn’t exist. While there’s an 18 per cent difference in pay between men and women in the UK, in the US it’s much more – and it’s good to see Jen paving the way for equal pay.
Plus, it’s good news for diversity in the film industry with Chinese actress Fan Bingbing, 34, making the Top 30 for the first time. It’s a long way off brilliant, but we’re getting there. Well done to the women of Hollywood for standing their ground!
‘I’m over trying to find the “adorable” way to state my opinion and still be likeable,’ J-law says. ‘F**k that.’ Jen, we couldn’t agree more.
