liam & Cheryl

Will Cheryl & Liam be able to agree on a baby name when the time comes?

It’s been a week of name speculation, following a spokesperson revealing on 7 November that Cheryl Fernandez-versini’s name ‘is in the process of being changed’. Will she revert to her maiden name Tweedy or reinvent herself as just ‘Cheryl’? Her divorce from husband of 19 months Jean-bernard Fernandez-versini was granted last month and, as Look has reported, her boyfriend Liam Payne may have already proposed as he’s desperate to cement their 11-month relationship.

Although it’s not yet known what name the singer, 33, will go by, and as rumours fly that Cheryl’s pregnant, Look can reveal that if the pair ever do have a baby in the future there could be a much bigger name battle for Cheryl and Liam.

As with many young couples, and often before a baby is even on the way, the subject of baby names has come up. Chezza has made no secret of her favourite – in a previous interview, she declared: ‘I’m obsessed with babies. Of course I’ve thought about baby names. A million times. I like Alfie for a little boy. ’ But we can exclusively reveal that Liam, 23, thinks Cheryl’s choice is a ‘rubbish’ name for a child (sorry, Chez) and he prefers the unisex moniker ‘Taylor’.

During a video clip from One Direction’s Vancouver gig in July last year, Liam is seen asking for help to pick a baby name for a pregnant fan.

He says: ‘Boys, any boy names for a boy who is being born? Congratulations, by the way!’ Niall Horan then appears to suggest the name ‘Alfred’, which seems to amuse Liam as it’s the name of his hero Batman’s butler. He replies: ‘Alfred? Mmmm, you can rip it off – Alfie?’ Which is also the baby name Cheryl admitted to liking. Louis Tomlinson opts for ‘Alberto’, which was the name of his bodyguard at the time, and Harry Styles unimaginatively suggests ‘Harry’.

Liam concludes: ‘Obviously, you’ve got some good names there, but Liam would probably be the best,’ before adding: ‘I hope you got a good name, don’t use any of our names – they were rubbish!’ (So Liam thinks the most popular boy name of 2016 is ‘rubbish’?) Cheeky.

While the pair weren’t romantically linked at the time, Cheryl’s bound to feel a tiny bit peeved on discovering what her beau really thinks of her choice of baby name.

Instead, according to an interview with KRB Radio in 2012 , Liam would prefer his firstborn to be called ‘Taylor’. But not only is the revelation of Liam’s favourite baby name set to come as a surprise to Cheryl, his explanation might, too. He revealed: ‘Taylor’s pretty neutral for a boy or a girl – that’s what I’m going to call my first child if I have children.’ Acknowledging the name’s unisex appeal suggests that, should Liam ever become a dad in the future, he’s likely to prefer to keep the baby’s sex a surprise, too.

Female namesakes include pop star Taylor Swift and Gossip Girl actress Taylor Momsen, while Twilight’s Taylor Lautner and The Vampire Diaries’ Taylor Kinney represent male Taylors in showbiz. And while it’s not clear what exactly has drawn Liam to the name, we do know he wasn’t influenced by the Shake It Off hitmaker, as he picked it before his bandmate Harry briefly dated Taylor Swift.

Cheryl might be a fan of Taylor Swift (having Tweeted about liking one of her songs previously), but with possible plans to move Stateside, maybe she’ll take inspo from her US pals, like the Kardashians – Dream Payne, anyone?

Cheryl’s rumoured to be attending Eva Longoria’s Global Gift Gala this week, along with Victoria Beckham. Maybe Vic will have some baby name advice? We like to think it will be a hot topic of conversation.

Liam’s likely to want to keep the baby’s sex a surprise
