CHERYL: ‘i don’t TRUST ANYBODY EXCEPT MY MOTHER’
Is Chez about to move her mum in? Look reports…
After her divorce, there will be wedding bells
It’s been a busy month for Cheryl. After months spent in hiding, the singer appeared at a L’oréal event in Paris, took part in her first live interview in years on The One Show and, as Look went to press, was rumoured to be attending the Global Gift Gala alongside hosts Eva Longoria and Victoria Beckham last weekend. But there’s been one thing missing… her boyfriend of 11 months Liam Payne. And it’s said to be why Cheryl’s been leaning so heavily on her mum Joan Callaghan for support right now.
‘Cheryl’s really been working flat out for the last month,’ says our source. ‘And not having Liam around just as she’s stepped back into the spotlight has been hard.’ Liam and Cheryl, who are due to celebrate their first anniversary next month, have been inseparable for most of the year after first being spotted together at February’s Brit Awards – and they couldn’t have looked more loved-up at their first red carpet appearance in Cannes. In fact, as we previously reported, the couple’s relationship moved so fast that Liam moved Cheryl, 33, into his Surrey pad and the pair even had their own ‘family’ – with a new teacup Chihuahua.
But while Cheryl remained absent from social media for most of the summer, her return to the red carpet has been solo. That’s due to Liam’s very busy recording schedule, as he gears up to launch his own album, having recently announced a record deal with huge US label Capitol Records. It’s seen the 23-year-old spend most of the last two months in America as part of pre-booked sessions with producers.
And while we’re told Cheryl’s hugely supportive of Liam’s musical endeavours, she’s apparently disappointed about not having her man by her side for such a long time.‘it’s not like Cheryl needs a man, but at the moment Liam’s absence has really hit her hard,’ says our source. ‘It’s why she’s moved mum Joan into their place, so she always has someone around.’
During her recent appearance on The One Show to promote her new role as a Childline ambassador, Cheryl admitted to finding the paparazzi ‘intense’ at the moment. ‘I find that extremely difficult to deal with,’ she told viewers. A friend said: ‘It’s made her slightly paranoid again. Having Liam so far from home in a place where he finds it easier to blend in means she’s not sure he understands her stress. Joan totally gets it, though, as she’s been through it before.’
Of course, that refers to Cheryl’s marriage to Ashley Cole in 2006, when Cheryl moved her mum into her house as
cheating claims surfaced. The former X Factor judge has previously said her mum is who she turns to when things get tough.
‘Cheryl’s a real homebody and loves nesting at home with her dogs, but she’s really appreciated having her mum around the last few weeks,’ adds another source.
In 2009 she admitted: ‘I’ve come to the conclusion that I don’t trust anybody in my life except my mother and my dogs.’ But how’s Liam going to feel about his girlfriend moving her mum into their place? ‘Joan adores Liam and he appreciates Joan being there for Cheryl to support her when he's not around,’ says our source. ‘He and Cheryl have had some disagreements about the situation, but it’s only because he wants them to have enough time to themselves.’
But according to pals, Cheryl’s aware of this and after her tumultuous marriages to Ashley Cole and Jean-bernard Fernandezversini, she really wants to make this relationship go the distance.
‘She’s totally loved-up and as soon as her divorce comes through, there will be wedding bells,’ says our source. And as Look told you previously, Cheryl’s already apparently accepted a proposal from her beau, so marriage and family plans are definitely on the cards very soon…
