Michelle keegan: it’s decision time
FOR MICHELLE With Hollywood calling, will it be Mark, family or her career?
There’s no denying that Michelle Keegan has had a super-successful 2016. And she’s set to have an even busier 2017 thanks to her role as Corporal Georgie Lane in BBC drama Our Girl, for which she’s scored rave reviews. Soon after Our Girl wrapped, Michelle, 29, was on the set of her next project, ITV drama Bobby And Tina. She’s also starred on Lip Sync Battle UK, The Crystal Maze and has lent her voice to BBC Radio 4’s play On Kosovo Field. In the first half of 2017, Michelle will be back in South Africa for the next series of Our Girl, which could take up to eight months to film – plus she has commitments to brands Revlon and Lipsy. Meanwhile, her husband Mark is tied up with his TV and radio shows in the UK and abroad. It’s no wonder spending quality time together has been a juggling act. Last month, Michelle told Look they planned Christmas
in Essex, but sources say Michelle is set to face her most hectic year yet… so will Mark, family or her career take priority?
A source close to the couple tells us: ‘There’s a big difference between saying you’re going to do something and actually doing it. Michelle is well aware that they can talk endlessly about second honeymoons and making up for lost time. That’s why she’s so insistent with Mark that they have to actually put things in the diary.’
Michelle took a huge step in her career when she decided to quit her popular role as Tina Mcintyre in Coronation Street in 2013. At the time, she said: ‘I don’t want to look back in 10 years and think: “What if?” At the minute I’ve got no babies, so I can venture out and try other things.’
And Michelle hasn’t looked back since. In fact, removing that safety net of a possible cobbles return has helped her max out her opportunities – so is the next stop Tinseltown? Our Girl’s stunt co-ordinator, Paul Pieterse thinks so, saying: ‘I’m working with top Hollywood stars and Michelle’s of that calibre.’
In the months leading up to marrying Mark in 2015, Michelle’s career soared. At the time many tipped the lovebirds as ‘the new Posh & Becks’. Now, sources tell us it’s not just Michelle who feels wanderlust – Mark’s doing small roles at the moment and he’s ‘serious’ about acting. Should the Hollywood casting call come sooner rather than later, Mark too could be set to go Stateside.
Earlier this month, the 29-year-old revealed he filmed two episodes of E!’s The Royals. And Look can reveal that last week the EX-TOWIE star applied for a US work visa. The insider adds: ‘His work schedule is more unstable than hers, so when opportunities come up he likes to say yes.’
Speaking of schedules, Michelle told Look she has to constantly sync her diary with family and friends: ‘Mark’s always looking at his diary and I’m looking at mine and my friends are all on Whatsapp trying to arrange their time.’ For talented actors like Michelle, Hollywood film shoots can be lengthy, so there’s bound to be even more pressure to prioritise. We hope the stars will align in 2017, making ‘Marchelle’ Tinseltown’s next hot power couple.
