Ballet Beautiful

Look (UK) - - FIRST -

Ever since Valentino’s ballerinas seemed to float down the catwalk – with soft polonecks worn underneath their velvet dresses, satin shoes laced around their ankles, hair firmly bunned – it seems that the world, sartorially speaking at least, was born to dance.

Some labels, like Zara and H&M, were so overtaken by the urge to demi-plié that they released entire lines of ballet-inspired separates and delicate chiffon frocks. From the prettiest of tulle skirts to wrap dresses to indulgently soft knits, the rest of the high street also has a ballet bounty so vast it seems futile to try to resist.

If tulle isn’t your bag, channel Miu Miu’s ribbonadorned flats instead, thanks to Zara’s silver shoes complete with a black ribbon tie. Failing that, a wrapfront cardigan will look perfect with jeans and loafers. We could make a joke here about your style being en pointe, but we won’t.
