‘Having A Baby With My Ex Has Been Tough’
Lucy Nutt, 31, a nurse from Reading, was in the same situation as Binky and is now mum to three-year-old Alfie. ‘Tom and I met in 2012 and straightaway I knew that he’d be in my life forever – but I never imagined in this way. We were pretty full-on from the start; he moved into my place after just four months. But when Tom took a new bar job, things started to change. The long hours meant we hardly saw each other. We’d been together a year and a half when I just realised I was done and we ended things. It wasn’t pleasant.
‘But two months later, I’d been feeling pretty unwell and the doctor suggested a pregnancy test. I can’t tell you how shocked I was when he told me it was positive. I knew instantly I wanted to keep our baby. Telling Tom was hard, but he took it quite well. He told me he would support me.
‘Tom moved back in when I was six months along. It was nice but the spark had gone. I won’t lie – at nine months, I was sobbing to my friends about being a single mum. However when Alfie was born, Tom was by my side and I knew I could make it work. I was so overwhelmed with love for him.
‘Alfie’s now three and Tom and I aren’t together. We’ve tried again for his sake a couple of times, but for now we’re better as friends. It’s been tough, but Alfie’s amazing and that’s our priority, not our relationship.’
