Move over hygge; lagom is the new Scandi buzzword
Lagom is the lifestyle trend about to dominate 2017. The Nordic word vaguely translates to ‘not too much, not too little’ and it works in every aspect of life. Here’s how to apply it to yours...
1 Eat Well, Most Of The Time
Lagom isn’t about starving yourself, but neither is it about stuffing yourself. If you have a big lunch, eat a lighter dinner. Indulging in dessert? Balance it with a healthier main course.
2 Take One Item Off
Coco Chanel was already starting on the lagom path! Simplicity is the key – paring back your outfit by taking off one accessory is the key to balance. Our favourite Scandi brands are already doing the streamlined thing well; look to Cos, Weekday and Acne for inspo.
3 Turn Off The Light
Reducing your impact on the environment and leading a more sustainable, green life is key to the principle. That means not letting the tap run while you brush your teeth, switching off the TV properly and making sure you turn off all lights and sockets before leaving the house.
4 Get The Size Right
Specifically portion sizes. Lagom is all about cooking the right amount of food with no waste. ‘The right amount of food eliminates the possibility of overeating, so clear the kitchen space immediately after cooking,’ says nutritionist Lily Soutter.
5 Edit Your Beauty Cabinet
‘Overloading your skin with several different products can really stress it out,’ says Look beauty writer gabriel le Dy er .‘ instead, edit down your regime to cleanser, toner, serum and moisturiser, then try to stick to the same products for at least four weeks–the amount of time it takes for your skin to get used to them .’
