Lagom is the life­style trend about to dom­i­nate 2017. The Nordic word vaguely trans­lates to ‘not too much, not too lit­tle’ and it works in ev­ery as­pect of life. Here’s how to ap­ply it to yours...

1 Eat Well, Most Of The Time

Lagom isn’t about starv­ing your­self, but nei­ther is it about stuff­ing your­self. If you have a big lunch, eat a lighter din­ner. In­dulging in dessert? Bal­ance it with a health­ier main course.

2 Take One Item Off

Coco Chanel was al­ready start­ing on the lagom path! Sim­plic­ity is the key – par­ing back your out­fit by tak­ing off one ac­ces­sory is the key to bal­ance. Our favourite Scandi brands are al­ready do­ing the stream­lined thing well; look to Cos, Week­day and Acne for in­spo.

3 Turn Off The Light

Re­duc­ing your im­pact on the en­vi­ron­ment and lead­ing a more sus­tain­able, green life is key to the prin­ci­ple. That means not let­ting the tap run while you brush your teeth, switch­ing off the TV prop­erly and mak­ing sure you turn off all lights and sock­ets be­fore leav­ing the house.

4 Get The Size Right

Specif­i­cally por­tion sizes. Lagom is all about cook­ing the right amount of food with no waste. ‘The right amount of food elim­i­nates the pos­si­bil­ity of overeat­ing, so clear the kitchen space im­me­di­ately af­ter cook­ing,’ says nutri­tion­ist Lily Sout­ter.

5 Edit Your Beauty Cabi­net
