‘The pe­ti­tion gain­ing so much at­ten­tion world­wide was some­thing I never could have pre­dicted. I knew my case wasn’t iso­lated; as women I think we be­come used to the fact that so­ci­ety pres­surises us to change the way we look on a daily ba­sis. It had be­come nor­mal to me that an em­ployer would go be­yond ask­ing me to look pro­fes­sional in the work­place and sug­gest I needed to look more at­trac­tive to do my job. I hope the law changes, as I be­lieve it should re­flect so­ci­ety and work for the peo­ple. What has been pow­er­ful al­ready, how­ever, in terms of pro­vok­ing a cul­ture shift, is that peo­ple are talk­ing about it. Women who may not pre­vi­ously have ques­tioned their em­ployer have been em­pow­ered by oth­ers and have spo­ken about their own ex­pe­ri­ences of dis­crim­i­na­tion. Af­ter all, if you don’t ever chal­lenge things, they will stay the same.’
