VICTORIA: ‘A Family And Career? It’s Hard’
After Fashion Week success, Victoria is putting the drama of last month behind her, but admits it’s been tough
‘You can’t understate how hard it is to juggle a family and working. There’s a lot of pressure.’ That’s Victoria Beckham being exceptionally candid, talking with The Sunday Times and Estée Lauder’s Sarah Creal about what it’s really like to be a woman in business.
It’s pretty refreshing to hear Victoria admitting that running her £36m fashion empire and being a mum of four is hard when she makes it look so effortless. It’s even more impressive to see the 42year-old opening up following the scandal of the last month. Brand Beckham took a hit following the ‘Beckileaks’ scandal, which saw emails between husband David and his then manager made public, where he raged about not being given a knighthood and called the Honours Committee ‘c**ts’.
But Victoria has powered through. As Look reported previously, the designer took charge and brought the family closer – all while putting together a very well-received AW17 collection and a second make-up range for Estée Lauder. Oh, and she’s about to reveal her first mother and daughter diffusion line for Target, out 9 April. Busy, much?
‘I put the family first, David and the children are everything to me,’ she says. But of course, it comes with its fair share of stress and pressure.
‘Victoria’s exhausted,’ says a worried pal. ‘She’s been working nonstop. She’s a master at it, but it gets harder as she takes on more projects.’
The star’s still concerned about the lasting damaging effects of the Beckileaks drama, too. ‘It’s put a lot of strain on her marriage,’ says our source, ‘but she and David are committed to making it work.’
And while the family did manage to squeeze in a half-term ski break to Canada (where does she get the energy?!), we’re told Victoria and David are planning their own little getaway before the big move to their new £5m house in the Cotswolds, where Vic has told friends she hopes to make ‘a fresh start’.
‘They’re going to have some proper quality time together,’ adds our insider. ‘David wants to give Victoria a break from her daily stress.’ With her 43rd birthday coming up in April, we’d say there’s no better time.
